Itinerary 

The Masai Mara is truly one of the best African safaris there is. Along with great herds of wildebeest, you can expect to see zebra, Thompson’s gazelles, lions, cheetah, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, kongoni, topi, hyena, waterbuck, impala,  eight species of primates, and hundreds of species of birds. Many have called it “the greatest wildlife show on earth.”

Covering a vast area of some 1,500 square kilometers, the Mara is a living tapestry of grassy savanna, umbrella-like thorn trees, rounded hills, and riparian woodlands.

Day One

After breakfast in Nairobi, we head out on a scenic drive to the northern part of the Serengeti Plain, called the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Considered by many to be the finest wildlife park in the world, it was recently voted one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World – the only wildlife park to make the list. September is a wonderful month to view the migration as it peaks during this period. The animals begin to arrive here in the middle of August and stay until the end of October.

We will enjoy an evening game drive in the safari vehicles and have a delicious, authentic Kenyan dinner overlooking the Mara River.

Day Two: 

We will greet the sun as it rises over the vast savannah on our early morning game drive. Often this is the best time to view the animals – it is an incredible experience to witness the tranquility of the African Serengeti.

Our lodge for this trip is the award-winning Mara Serena Game Lodge, located on a rolling hill above the Mara river and in the center of the migrating herds. We will enjoy a delicious breakfast with panoramic views of the game-filled plains below. We will have time to lounge by the pool, read a book on the terrace, or enjoy a spa treatment.

In the late afternoon, we will head out again for another game drive, following the migrating herds and watching the wildebeest make their famous crossings of the Mara River.

Day Three: 

For those who wish, there will be an opportunity to take an optional world-famous, sunrise hot air balloon ride over the park’s migrating herds. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. After breakfast, we will head out on another game drive before our drive back to Nairobi.
