Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
At MedTreks, we are committed to creating an environment that welcomes and embraces individuals from all walks of life, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or ability. We believe that diversity is a critical component of a thriving community that promotes creativity, innovation, and understanding. We value the unique perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds that our guests, students, faculty, guides, and the larger MedTreks community bring to the table.
Inclusion is at the heart of our company culture. We actively seek to create a safe and welcoming environment where everyone feels respected, valued, empowered, and comfortable being themselves. We encourage open and honest communication, and we strive to foster a culture of respect and understanding. We believe that traveling and experiencing life in other regions of the world helps to foster understanding and build a community of open-minded health professionals and adventure enthusiests. We are global citizens and have a unique opportunity to learn from others, share knowledge and collaborate on solutions for a better, more inclusive future for us all.
We understand that our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is an ongoing process that requires continuous learning, growth, and improvement. We are committed to engaging in ongoing education and training to ensure that we are always evolving and improving our practices.
The following initiatives demonstrate our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
MedTreks Kenya Global Health Program
Our MedTreks Kenya Global Health program is designed to provide hands-on skills, education, and training for rural Kenyans working in resource-limited areas. This program is designed as a train-the-trainer model and provides a cross-cultural knowledge exchange between healthcare professionals from different regions of the world.
Women in Medicine in the Outdoors Program (WIMITOP)
This program is designed by women in the medical profession who are passionate about sharing their knowledge and skills to other women in medicine seeking to feel confident and empowered in the outdoors. MedTreks hosts women-specific adventure trips as well as Wilderness First Aid certifications courses just for women.
MedTreks Youth in the Outdoors Program
MedTreks has hosted specific wilderness first aid courses in outdoor settings that combine wilderness medicine skills with some type of adventure activity such as hiking and rafting.
We are constantly seeking ways to provide learning and adventure opportunities that are inclusive and supportive for people from all different backgrounds.
