Supporting Wilderness First Aid Training in Ecuador

Post-Thmbnail

Every year, MedTreks returns to Ecuador. Our travelers explore the Galápagos, spend time in Quito, and often continue into the Andes and other parts of the mainland.

Those trips depend on local guides, naturalists, drivers, educators, and small businesses. They are the people who know the trails, wildlife, weather, communities, and landscapes, and who take on the responsibility of keeping travelers informed and safe.

Because we work with Ecuadorian tourism professionals year after year, we wanted to support their work in a practical way. This year, MedTreks is partnering with Kingue Adventure School to sponsor 12 local tourism and outdoor professionals for a two-day Wilderness First Aid course.

Meet Kingue Adventure School

Kingue was founded and is run by Ecuadorians. Its home base sits about 40 minutes outside Quito, at the foothills of Pasochoa Volcano.

The school uses Ecuador’s mountains, rivers, forests, and coastlines as classrooms. Participants learn by doing: planning routes, working through problems as a group, preparing meals, making decisions, and taking turns in leadership roles. Kingue’s instructors guide the process while giving participants room to make mistakes, adjust, and build confidence.

That local connection is central to Kingue’s work. Its instructors teach in places they know well and work with guides, communities, and outdoor professionals who have deep roots in Ecuador.

What MedTreks Is Sponsoring

MedTreks will cover 12 places in a two-day, 16-hour Wilderness First Aid course hosted and taught by Kingue.

The sponsored places will be available to Ecuadorian tourism and outdoor professionals who can use the training in their work. Selected participants will need to attend and participate during both full days.

Our goal is straightforward: help make practical training available to people already working in Ecuador’s outdoor tourism community.

What Happens Next

Kingue and MedTreks are finalizing the Wilderness First Aid training in Ecuador dates, application, eligibility requirements, and selection process. We’ll share those details soon, along with more information about Jorge, Kingue’s instructors, and the professionals selected for the course.

This is the beginning of our partnership with Kingue, and we’re looking forward to sharing the process as the course comes together.
