Gift Ideas for Mothers’s Day!
Mother’s Day can mean a lot of different things, depending on where you are in life and who you’re thinking about. For some, it’s a day to celebrate a biological mom. For others, it might be about honoring a mentor, a dear friend, a sister or someone who pours their heart into caring for others (patients, family, their pets!)
Gifts on Mother’s Day tend to follow a familiar pattern: flowers, a card, maybe some chocolate. Finding the “right gift” can be stressful.
If you are wanting to have some fun and do something a little different, here’s a few ideas our Team at MedTreks came up with:
- DIY Goodies:
- Make a batch of her favorite cookies and give her a gift card for a monthly batch the rest of the year!
- Make her a backcountry cocktail mix!
- Repurpose a container from the Goodwill and plant a flower or succulent in it
- Decorate a tea towel!
- Time Outside Together
- Design a little scavenger hunt
- Plan a hike to a place she hasn’t been
- Rent a kayak or paddle board for the day
- A Shared Meal
- Maybe bring a picnic on a hike or take your camping stove to a beautiful spot with a view and cook a simple meal with a cooler of her favorite beverages.
- If you have been on one of our MedTreks trips with a cooking class, maybe now is the chance to try that meal!?
- Spa Time
- A morning at a spa enjoying a massage
- Gift a small package for a “spa at home”
- Book a yoga class or strength training class together
- Some Kind of Lesson
- A cooking class, a pottery class, a surf lesson, a photography walk.
- A Trip Together!
- Not necessarily far or super elaborate, just somewhere that creates a bit of distance from everyday life.
We’ve seen more and more mothers and daughters choose to travel together in this way. We have had mother-daughter duos join us on shorter trips like Women and Whitewater and also more bucket list trips like Galápagos Islands in Ecuador.
The point is less about what you give and where you go and more about how you spend the time. That said, even something simple, done intentionally, can be so special.
In the end, most gifts eventually get set aside or forgotten. Time together doesn’t. And that’s usually the part that stays!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mothers out there – especially the ones who have traveled with MedTreks, and to those that will. You make our trips even more special!
