What It’s Like to Travel to Antarctica with MedTreks
We just returned from our 2026 Antarctica voyage! It’s a place many people have on their list, but it can be hard to picture what the experience actually looks like day to day… how the days flow, what you see, and how it all comes together. Below are a few reflections from the group, along with a closer look at what the experience is like on the ground.
The Setting
Days in our Antarctica CME Travel experience are shaped by the conditions and where the ship travels overnight. You might wake up surrounded by ice, with glaciers and steep mountain faces rising straight out of the water. Each day shifts slightly depending on weather, wildlife, and landing opportunities.
“Zodiac excursions through icy channels, landings on remote Antarctic beaches, and wildlife encounters that felt incredibly close—this was one of the most thoughtfully run trips I’ve experienced.”
— Tiffany H
Wildlife
Wildlife is a constant part of the experience. You’re not viewing it from a distance. Penguins move along the shoreline, seals rest on floating ice, and whales often surface close to the ship.
“Waking up to humpback whales outside my balcony and seeing thousands of penguins up close was something I never got used to.”
— Chelsea T
What the Days Look Like
Days follow a clear structure, but remain flexible. Most include a mix of Zodiac excursions through ice channels, shore landings, and time back on the ship to rest, eat, and warm up. Some days also include optional activities like kayaking or even a polar plunge.
“Each outing felt well planned, safe, and easy to step into—even in a place that feels so remote.”
— Tiffany H
Comfort and Support
While the setting is remote, the experience is well-supported throughout. You return to the ship between outings, with comfortable rooms, good meals, and a place to reset before heading back out. The crew and expedition team handle the logistics so you can stay present in the experience.
“The boat crew took care of every member of our group in really thoughtful ways.”
— Chelsea T
The Group
The group dynamic is a big part of the experience. People arrive as individuals and leave having shared something that’s hard to replicate elsewhere. The setting naturally brings people together.
“Fellow travelers quickly became friends, bonded by the experience of being there together.”
— Tiffany H
CME
CME is available for those who want it, and is integrated into the trip in a way that doesn’t take away from the experience. For many of our guests it adds another layer to the trip without feeling like a traditional course.
We’ve opened our next Antarctica departure, and group size is intentionally limited! Antarctica is one of those places that’s difficult to fully picture until you’re there.
