MedTreks Kenya Program: Everything You Need to Know About Our Global Health Field Course

The MedTreks Kenya Program gives healthcare professionals the chance to step into real-world global health work while learning directly from local experts. This field course takes place in partnership with Village HopeCore International, an established public health and development organization based in Chogoria, Kenya.

Our goal is simple: equip medical professionals with the skills, confidence, and practical tools they need to work effectively in public health, travel medicine, and humanitarian settings.

How to Sign Up for a MedTreks Kenya Trip

You can register directly through our MedTreks Kenya trip page.
If you have questions before you book, feel free to reach out through our contact page, we’re happy to guide you.

Do I Need a Medical Background to Join?

No. We welcome medical and non-medical participants.
We match volunteers with project needs, especially those with experience in leadership, wellness, photography, computer science, marketing, or education.
If you’re not in the medical field, we’ll work with you to find the right fit within the program.

What Will Participants Do During the Field Course?

You join the team as a MedTreks participant, and together we work alongside Village HopeCore. Their community health program spans more than 500 villages and includes:

  • Mobile school clinics

  • Community health outreach events

  • Public health workshops

  • Ongoing staff training and skills development

Throughout the week, you rotate through several core areas of the program, participate in hands-on clinics, support health education, and collaborate with local Kenyan healthcare leaders.

What Is the Purpose of This Program?

The MedTreks Kenya Program creates space for a true exchange of knowledge and collaboration.
Since 2001, MedTreks has worked closely with HopeCore to strengthen public health delivery and support local healthcare leadership.
We focus on skills training, education, program development, and long-term capacity building — always led by the needs and insights of our partners in Kenya.

Can I Earn CME or Nursing Credits?

Yes. Participants who join a CME-designated Kenya trip receive both CME and CEU credits as part of the field course.

  • Breakfast at the hotel

  • Morning lectures or workshops

  • On-site global health work in field clinics or schools

Is the Program Safe?

Chogoria has a long history of welcoming international healthcare teams.
For more than 20 years, we’ve brought medical professionals to this region without significant safety issues.
