Bringing Medical Professionals Together, Defining Medicine Outside the Hospital Walls

After being in the conference industry for the past 2 decades, one of the most common statements I heard was “I wish there was more time to meet and get to know the faculty or I wish there was more engaging networking opportunities to meet other like-minded individuals in the industry.” In conferences where there are hundreds of attendees, it can be challenging to navigate how to meet other people or get some of your questions answered.

This past week we launched the first (hopefully of many!) MedTreks Global Medicine Seminars. We hosted the event in the charming town of Ashland, Oregon. A small-group meeting with a few very specific intentions.

What really is “Global Medicine” you may ask? 

Global Medicine is a fusion of the three major topics that we primarily educate on at MedTreks: Global Health, Wilderness & Travel Medicine. All of these topics overlap in many different ways and all require learning about medicine outside of the hospital walls. We find that people who are passionate about learning Wilderness Medicine, are often passionate about volunteering abroad or learning to provide care in disaster situations.Those who have volunteered abroad often want to refresh or refine their skills in Wilderness Medicine.

Our incredible team of expert faculty makes it easy for us to design a course that shares useful knowledge on these distinct topics – because our faculty have lived their lives dedicated to these areas of medicine. They have been on the ground, day in and day out – living the real life experience. Their stories, their wisdom – is what allows the education to be at the next level.

Weekend Courses in Awesome Destinations

While so many of our courses are based on adventure trips requiring travel and extended time away from family and work, it is important to us that we continue to share our passion for Global Health, Wilderness and Travel Medicine, in a variety of learning environments – allowing more people to have access to the education. We also make sure these courses are in lovely locations, making it a weekend destination for our participants. Next up: the Wine Country of California!

Networking Opportunities: 

These weekend seminars are designed so that there are several opportunities to meet and get to know other fellow medical professionals who share similar interests and passions. These weekend courses offer pre-course workshops as well as meet and greet happy hours and breakout sessions.
